Spock's Earth history class at the Academy was not going well. Most students, being Terran, had grown up with prior knowledge, but he had only textbooks. He considered asking Jim Kirk, the best history student, for assistance, but was wary of initiating dialogue."I was wondering if you would tutor me in inorganic chemistry," asked Jim, "since you've got the top grade."
Spock found it difficult to believe the gregarious Cadet Kirk had problems with *any* kind of chemistry. He found himself consenting to this arrangement, wondering if in the hours of intimate intellecualism he might finally find a friend.
