After devouring their picnic dinner, Kirk and Spock lay down on the beach. Overhead, conifers spread in twisted, creative patterns, and on the Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge--a pedestrian landmark in this age of shuttlecars--framed the sunset.

The men held hands and looked up at the stars. "We have been there, and there, and there," said Spock, pointing into the night.

Kirk was silent in appreciation, then tapped Spock's body. "I've been here, and here, and here." This last touch was at Spock's groin. "I like it here," Kirk added, his hand on Spock's middle--the Vulcan's heart.
