Tea With Marmelade


While others took their coffee during their mid-afternoon break,
Chekov cheerfully prepared his tea with a great clinking of
china, glass and stainless steel.

"Ah, Lieutenant Uhura, won't you join me for some tea with jam?"
said the irrepressible ensign as the lovely lieutenant walked
by.

She turned with a smile and sat down opposite him. "What have
you got there?" she asked.

"Tea with jam. It's an old Russian custom." He took a glass mug
and filled it with strong tea. Then he spooned in some
glistening marmelade. "The jam is sweetener. Won't you have
some?"

"That's very interesting. Certainly," Uhura said, and accepted
the mug. She took a sip and nodded approvingly.

Chekov beamed. "I always knew you had impeccable taste!"
